Feather River College is a 2-year community college located in Quincy, California. Enrollment in the Fall 2008 semester was 1,495 students total.

Feather River College was founded in July 1968, when Plumas County was added to the Peralta Community College District. The association with the Peralta district was ended in 1988, and the Feather River Community College District was formed.[1]

Perched on a mountain side forested with pine and oak, Feather River College is in a quiet, rural community. Bordering Plumas National Forest, the 256-acre (1.04 km2) campus hosts a variety of wildlife, including a resident deer herd. Far removed from the bustle of city life, the campus provides a sanctuary for self discovery, study and relaxation. Academic rigor is maintained in a friendly, informal atmosphere by a faculty dedicated to student growth and success. In addition to the classrooms and laboratories, the campus features unique facilities that include a trout hatchery and an equestrian center with horse boarding facilities. Feather River College is a public, two year community college, fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The college provides a library of databases for its students, accessible to students from the Library, Learning Center, computer labs, as well as from off-campus computers with an Internet connection. It requires a student to log in with his or her account. This resource is available at the FRC Library webpage, and includes databases such as LexusNexus Academic, LearningExpress Library, and CQ Researcher. Other resources available to students include the DSP & S office (Disabled Students Programs & Services), referred to simply as DSPS, the Workability program, which helps students with disabilities finish college and acquire a job, and the Learning Center, which provides computer access and tutoring. SIFE, which stands for Students In Free Enterprise, is a program designed to help students interested in entrepreneurship, and allows them to become involved in local businesses. The campus also includes a bookstore, where students can purchase books for their classes, and a cafeteria which includes a coffee/hot chocolate machine, a salad bar, and a dessert case. The Student Center is downstairs in the same building as the cafeteria, and provides a place for students to relax, featuring a television, pool table, and ping-pong table.

Cal Hunter, the former News Director/Anchor of KRCR-TV, often provided play-by-play for the Feather River College Golden Eagles on KBLF radio.

Costs

Unit costs are $26 per unit for California residents, $42 per unit for Nevada residents, and $220 per unit for non-resident students, plus a $26 per unit enrollment fee. There is a transportation fee of $1.50 per unit taken, as the student's Feather River College ID card makes them eligible for free ridership on the Plumas County Transit system. A parking permit is $20 per semester, and $5 for the summer session. Tuition for international students is $190, plus a $28 enrollment fee and $17 health fee. The enrollment fee helps support campus health services including limited student accident insurance.[2]

Feather River College will defer tuition and enrollment fees for any student who cannot pay the full amount at the time of enrollment. For the duration of the deferment of those fees, a freeze will be placed on all grades, transcripts, and enrollment in future semesters until the debt is satisfied. The student will, however, still be able to add and drop classes during the current semester. Payment of this obligation results in immediate release of the freeze.
